I also doubt very much the guy with the bike stole it.  If he paid more than R500 I'd actually be surprised.  That's the reality of rural "economies".

Let me also correct something - I wasn't there.

I picked this up on the FunTrax Facebook page and am letting everyone I can think of know about it.  The bike is not likely to leave the area and the guy who saw it can be contacted for further info to track the village down.

I've also passed the info on to someone with SAPS connections because, let's go back to the beginning here, the guy who saw this bike tried to get them to come and investigate.  Nothing happened and he eventually had to leave.

On reflection, if I were in this situation what I would do is chat to the guy, ask him what he paid for the bike and try buy it from him.  That is if there is no option of getting the police or a security company to intervene.  I suppose you could load the bike in your car and proceed to the police station but that I'm not sure about!!  Accuse the guy of theft with absolutely no evidence?  No.  Possession of stolen property? Yes.

I doubt the guy in the picture stole the bike. If he had, he wouldn't stand still and smile for his photo to be taken. He probably bought it from the thief for a couple hundred bucks.

Jacob Zuma steals our money and then stands smiling like the village idiot. Maybe this chap is the same. Although, I must admit that this guy appears to be higher educated than JZ.

Ja it's difficult, because that oke on the bike could honestly have bought the bike from the actual thief. And I bet he doesn't even know what carbon fiber is, so to him it's just another bike. I guess the best thing to do would be buy it back from him (if he doesn't want to give it back even though you've made him aware it was stolen) and try track down the rightful owner.

What an insult to this poor chap, comparing him to Zuma!

Stop being so frigging polite. That's a stolen bike and that's a THIEF.

With data or facts or evidence, any claims that he is a thief is impolite.

Never mind very inappropriate and prejudicial.
