Howzit Hubbers

I am currently rebuilding my Easton EA70XC (Straight pull spoke) Rear wheel with a new Novatec (J Pull spoke) Hub.

What I am finding is the spokes have a certain thread direction, while the nipple has an opposite thread direction to the spoke.

So basically, you screw the nipple into the rim and it ends up unscrewing the spoke from the nipple, there is no way to screw the nipple past the threads so it moves freely on the spoke so you can then tighten the nipple into rim. :cursing:

Anyone have an idea on how to solve this?

If you're re-using the nipples from the Easton straight-pull hub, it sounds like they could be the problem. If you get hold of a "standard" nipple to test, you may have the answer. Good luck!

No can do unfortunately,

The Rim is sealed with no chance of getting a nipple through the Valve hole

Aggeno man, sounds like you're in the dwang there! No more clever ides from me on this one, speak to the wheel gurus on here via PM, and see who can help you (Dave Marshall, Kiwi, Divernick, etc)

The design calls for threading the spoke onto the nipple and then screwing the nipple into the rim.  Only possible with straight pull spokes.

I don't recollect the nipple hole diameter in those rims but there is a slight chance that you could use a standard nipple.  You need a magnet and nipple insert to feed the nipple in through the valve hole and into position in the rim.  A real pain!

This is one of the reasons I harp on about keeping away from patented and straight pull spokes!

I would replace the rim as well.
