I'm new to the forum and am looking for a medium frame 29er. Has anyone bought a second hand bike from someone online and had it couriered to them in another city (receiver pays COD)?

I need some advice with respect to which courier to use, and what guarantees you can get so that the seller won't run off with your money. I know that most people on earth are mostly honest but...

I often send my bike between CT and Jhb, between bicycle shops (the gear change in Mowbray and Cyclic in Bryanston). Drop it off at one, they clean and box it and send it to the other. The shop normally assembles on the other side for you too. Not sure which courier they use, but can also usually send to private address. May also be a good way of ensuring that the deal goes down smoothly.

I have bought and sold various bikes and moved them successfully to buyers around the country and also had a stolen bike boxed and returned always with Time Freight. they are pretty good at moving bikes and are also sponsors of various mtb and triathlons so understand moving bikes, I just get a box from a bike shop, bubble wrap the bike remove the hanger and rear derailleur , wrap the chain etc. Ive never had a come back or complaint.
