Newbie MTB riders wanting some advise

Honestly what I meant by weight was not the weight of the bike but the centrifugal force of the wheel spinning. Soon as I turned and the wheel lifted off the ground I could feel it. That's what was really causing me hassles. 14kg after all isn't that heavy. Thinking about it another part is probably the size of the bike. Just not used to large bikes.

This is probably one of the reason why serious racers stick with hard-tail bikes, and leisure riders like full suspension bikes ... hard-tails weigh less than full suspension.

and also why people spend obscene amounts on light weight rims .....

ironically, THIS is one of the benefits of a 27.5'' bike ... lighter wheels and tires, and smaller radius of gyration, easier to accelerate ....  And I can FEEL it between my 27,5 and my 29'' bikes !!  But once going, the 29'' is smoother over rough terrain.

Thanks I really do appreciate each and every response.

I'm not riding to win. I'm riding to spend time with my wife, to do something I enjoy and to have fun. I don't see myself ever racing. But you never know.

I'll try and remember all of this.

Just rememberit is supposed to be fun, and that challenging yourself is what it is all about. Just make sure you have the right bike. Everything else is mostly secondary. A really crap bike that fits properly and works is better than the fanciest bike that doesn't fit. Especially if it more a relationship, recreational thing. I saved up for two years for my dream bike and it is much more finicky than my old Giant. And much more expensive to maintain. Oh it is fast and MUCH more comfortable, but to be honest, I sometimes wish my old one was still available, if only for my wallet!
