Definitely. Wider rims better support the tyre, allowing you to run lower pressures without burping, which means a more comfy ride. It also changes the shape of the tyre slightly, which depending on tyre design can improve grip through corners.

Spot on. Wider is better. Widest I would go with 2.2 - 2.3 width tyres is a 30mm rim. Wider than that and you have to go for a wider tyre as the sidewalls of the tyre are a bit too exposed. 27mm internal width is great for most notmal tyres and should allow you to drop tyre pressure to as low as 1.6 bar on most 2.3 width tyres which will give you a good profile and great grip as well as a more comfortable ride.

As far as Rapide goes, I have never owned any of their rims, but have ridden bikes with the rims fitted - quality is top notch and customer care is great. Wayne (owner of Rapide) is a legend when it comes to support and aftersales service!
