A day in Capetown (from Sydney) - advice please!

If you have 2 days:

Day 1: Cruise from Green Point along the coast to the top of Chappies, turn around, come back the same way, but turn right up "The Glen" aka Kloof Rd just after Camps Bay. Ride up there and turn left again to Signal Hill. Nice long climb with great views of the city. Come back to Green Point via town and the Waterfront. That'll be 75km (I did it on Sunday). Here's my Strava route - i didn't do the Glen but got to the same place ...https://www.strava.com/activities/1041987147

Day 2: As previously suggested, drive to Noordhoek, but I'd go towards Simonstown (via Black Hill), turn right up Red Hill (well sign-posted) and then head towards Cape Point (go into the reserve if you have time) and head back along the coast connecting to Noordhoek via Fish Hoek. I'd skip the Kommetjie section as you'll probably be on your own and it can be a bit dodgy these days (but very beautiful). We still ride it, but we're in groups.

Enjoy!

I'll bring some Sydney weather with me ;)

Hi there, and welcome. As for the above, please don't. It is stoopid dry here at the moment, as El Nino has done a number on us Capetonians. We are in dire need of some rain.

Rather dress appropriately.

Just an update.

Chapmans is closed indefinitely according to the radio. So it's doubtful that it will be open when you arrive. You can still ride it to the top Lookout. The views from there are great and having the road all to yourself makes it feel like an Alpine Col. Without the 12% gradient. Some retards do carry on to Noordhoek but I'd strongly advise against that.

So If you want to go around the point it's best to drive to Noordhoek IMO.

If you want to stay out of a car take Tomi's Day 1 route. Some amazing views and damn good roads. Bootleggers in Bakoven is good for coffee. Also Dario's in Hout Bay and Casarechio. Right at the base of Chappies.

Great options, though what a shame Chappies is out!

Just a question - I'm a bit confused what 'blackhill' is, does this have a formal road name?

Sorry about the drought, I had no idea. Erm, I'll do the rain dance as I leave if that's OK?

Officially it's called the Glencairn Expressway or the M6. My Fiance and I call it Col de Noir

Had an awesome - though windy - 100km ride from Capetown down to the cape point turnoff, thanks to Duncan who gave up a day for me - thanks mate.

Very glad I had company, would not have wanted to deal with the city traffic without a local to guide me.

Road surfaces 9/10

Local drivers 3/10 (had a few words with one 'nice' gent in guess what a Subaru WRX, the global preference of the knobhead)

Scenery 10/10 once out of town

Likely to cycle commute if I was a local 0/10 - no thanks!

Bike from iRide - 8/10 (good condition, well-serviced Roubaix, could have used some nicer wheels but I do get why they don't supply them on rental bikes. Friendly accommodating guys there)

Cheers everybody and thanks for the friendly response.
