Event Name: Sani Dragon
When: 30 September 2017 - 1 October 2017
Where: Himeville, Southern Drakensberg, Kwazulu-Natal

The Sani Dragon is a 2-day MTB stage race happening on the 30th September/1st October in the Underberg area of Southern KZN. The event will be based at the Premier Resort Sani Pass and takes place over the same period as the annual Underberg Farmer’s Association (UFA) Agricultural Show.

 

Event: Sani Dragon

Date: Saturday 30 September & Sunday 1 October 2017

Venue: Premier Resort Sani Pass, Himeville, Southern Drakensberg

Race details:

 

Sani Dragon:

Stage 1: 50km loop around Underberg & Himeville (7am start)

Stage 2: 42km, race to the summit of Sani Pass and back finishing at Premier Resort Sani Pass (6:30am start)

Sani Dragon LITE:

Stage 1: +-35km Will start at the Premier Hotel Himeville Arms and finish at the Premier Resort Sani Pass

Stage 2: 26km, including a climb to the SA Border Post but not to the summit of Sani Pass back to the Premier Resort Sani Pass

 

Format: Participants can take part in either in teams of two riders or individually in either the longer Sani Dragon or shorter Sani Dragon Lite event.

Registration: Registration will be from 14h00 to 18h00 on Friday 29th September at the event venue, Premier Resort Sani Pass on the Sani Pass Road.

I wonder how they will control traffic on the second stage with riders going up the pass (at slow speeds) and racing down ( I did 50kph+ in the 2015 race) at the same time...? I can't imagine them closing the pass completely for cars, although that would be the best solution.

I rode it in 2015, last stage is only timed to the top, but riders must all ride back to the start on their own power or get DNF. No traffic problem, okes go down slowly looking at the stunning view.

 

Two days before the event my rear shock failed, I pogo-ed all the way up and down Sani pass. That is how I learnt to regularly service my shocks.
