Momsen AL429 or Merida big seven

Hi, I'm new on this site and just want little help. I'm looking at two bikes (second hand). The Momsen AL429 and the Merida big Seven. Which one is the better bike. If i just look at the groupset the Merida looks beter but I'm not that good with MTB's.

Good morning Chris. Welcome to the Hub.

 

I suggest you give us a bit more info as the names you gave refer more to the frameset than a specific bike. Just by Google'ing either bike as you named them I get various setups ranging from Deore to XT components.

 

As for the frame itself, both Alu frames, both brands have very good reputations in SA. I own one of each, and can't say a word wrong about either (Merida 1-20 and a Momsen STR SS).

Based on the info provided, I'd go with the Merida because of the fork. Cheapest Fox is better than the Recon 30 Gold.

 

Any idea what wheels the Merida has? Also, how tall are you?

My Merida Big Seven XT Edition has the Recon30 on, so check nicely if your heart is set on the Fox version. Great bike to ride though, and I don't think the fork is going to hold you back significantly during your early days on a MTB.

I don't know what exact wheel the Merida has. I know the size is 27.5
