Buying Second Hand Softail

Hi All,

Trying to get into the sport.

Have had input from many different people.

Seems like that if i am planning on doing same races etc, then a softail is the way to go and that a hardtail will just end up being sold soon after i start riding more.

I am trying not to break the bank but get a good soft tail with decent components.

Any suggestions on bikes worth looking at without bankrupting myself.

Thanks very much all.

Check out the classifieds . Lots of options on Dual Suspension bicycles.

To be honest, I cannot see any reason to jump at a dual suspension bike, unless the type of riding dictates that... but even then.

I would much rather get a hardtail with better fork, wheels and components than a dual sus with more entry level spec just for the sake of getting dual sus.

What type of riding?

loads of options - Scott, Momsen

What's your definition of not breaking the bank? I ask because some people's splashing out is another's annual service cost haha.

There are many good deals in the classifieds, you can get a 2015/16 dual sus bike for a very good price, a hell of alot better than what you would be getting new. And just so you know (not trying to be a poephol), but dual suspension and softails are two very different things, I assume you are looking for a dual suspension bike... And yes, dual sus will be the better option if you are going to be spending alot of time in the saddle. You can do it all on a hardtail, but dual sus bikes are just comfier, especially if you are going to be doing stage races, ot have a sensitive back like me...

Bikes to have a look out for assuming you want an XC oriented bike:

Giant Anthem 29er

Spez Camber or Epic

Scott Spark

Momsen Vipa (Proudly ZA)

Pyga Stage (Proudly ZA)

There are many others, but these are the more poppular choices. You can also pick up 2015 - 2017 models of all of the above (except Camber) for a steal as the 2018s have just been released. You will see the classifieds are currently littered with Specialized Epics, some of them near brand new because guys are scrambling to unload their's so they can buy the new one.
