Best option for tyres on my bike

Hi Guys,

I have a 2014 Scott Spark 940 29er. I am needing to replace my tires and am seeking a little advice. I have used Schwalbe Rocket Ron's 2.25 which were awesome but I find the price of them a little steep. I have also gone through some Conti's front and back and have had some issues with them losing their structure when really pushing them(probably not the best tyre for my weight and how hard I ride).

So getting to my query, I have been looking into the Maxxis Ardent Race 29ER TR Ready. The reviews have been awesome and it seems like it will be a good front and back wheel. I have the Syncros XC, Eyelets, 32 Hole, XC39, 29" rim's on my bike(the standard one's) and was wandering which sizes would fit and best suit the bike. On CWC they have the 2.2 and the 2.35 available. My current conti's are 2.2's and with not having such a wide rim the tyres seem thin if that makes sense.

Thank you and I look forward to your assistance

Conti sizes are smaller than most. Typically a 2.2 conti is very sililar to 2.1 or sort of between 2.1 and 2.2 so that would also be why you see this (lower volume casing perhaps)

2.2 or 2.25 should be fine but you could fit 2.35 as we were all fitting 2.35 on normal width rims before the wider ones became popular.

however if you are fitting the same tyre front and back I would maybe put the wider one at the front and the narrower at the back.

Personally if I where you I would just buy the Schwalbes again as its what you know and have come to trust... goes a long way to ensuring confident riding.

The terrain and your riding style will determine your tyre choice.  Price only comes in once you have determined tyre profile, width and knobby count.  This will determine brand.

If you do lots of gravel consider GEAX Mezcals, if you do more rocks and single track try a more aggressive tyre.
