Berg100 announced today that they will allow gravel bikes (and e-bikes) to participate in this event in an informal capacity. I guess this is an experiment. Going to give it a try on a Diverge with 38mm TriggerPro tyres. Its a lot cheaper than travelling to W Cape for the Amarider100miler or the Eroica 185km and there won't be a shortage of water to shower in afterwards.

Surely these CX bikes got to be faster than a MTB, lighter?, bigger wheels (definitely),

Maybe the CX is a lot slower or more difficult to ride on tech sections (or is it)

I wonder if this may signal the beginning of the end of the MTB as we know it.

Would have thought this would have been a pretty big topic but other than the bike mags punting the CX thing, the silence is deafening, or have I missed something?

I think if I was in the market for a new bike it would be a cx.

Cant really see the ebikes catching on in any big way other than for urban commuters in Europe, kind of defeats the object of riding a bike. Not to mention the prices, many real motorbikes and scooters can be purchased for a lot less. (Imho)

E bikes are definitely growing rapidly (no, I dont want one).

Cant see cx taking over mtb...certainly not in SA. Cx bikes have been around for ever...

Oh, I thought they were a new thing in SA, had not seen or heard of them a year ago.

Saw a rather decent rider on a roadbike getting absolutely smoked on Suikerbossie but some noob-looking peeps on e-bikes this morning...

Will be interesting to see how the cx bikes fare against the MTB in the Berg 100 event.

The electric scooters, not so much, not really the same thing.

I have done about 10 rides from hekpoort to the top of Breedts and back on a CX bike, but my PR is on a Spez Epic.

It may just be that I was fitter then, but it certainly was muck quicker down the rutted bits.

Respect Eddy, I have only driven over breedts neck in a 4x4, hectic tough, not something I would be keen to do on a bicycle, proper challenge to do.

Might do it on one of the electric jobs though, hmmmmm maybe there is a market for those things aside from comuters.
