Absolutely, another direct insurer tried this with my wife once. Fortunately I know a little about the insurance industry, so after I climbed into them the not only did they paid but apologized too.

@ OP do you not have under your All Risk Section on your personal policy General unspeciefied items ( clothing etc), if you do, you might be able to claim for some of your clothing that got damaged. There is a % cap of 20% or 25% max per item on the insured value...give your broker a call to assist you.
