Am looking at purchasing a Bergamont - entry level with Shimano SLX brakes and Shimano XT derailleur. It's a German brand, and not many around so wondering if I should wait and buy a more established brand. Am coming from a Titan which is even more entry level...... Would appreciate any opinions

Hi and welcome to Bike Hub.

I would say save up a bit and rather get a brand that has ongoing local support and backup. It has been a while since Bergamont had a local agent which may leave you stuck when you need support.

There are some great bikes around and you'll be able to find a deal in the classifieds - just keep looking, a deal will pop up.

Happy riding!

Bergamont had some great, we'll priced products and had some link of sorts to BMC.

I don't think they are available in SA anymore, although I could be wrong.

Before you buy find out who will cover the warranties. If that part is covered, then there is no reason not to buy.

Bergamont was bought out by Scott. And Scott SA decided not to continue with it here.

Ito proprietary parts it will be just the frame warranty (not applicable to second owner,) suspension bearings and derailleur hanger that will give you headaches if they fail.

If it's a hardtail and a bargain, then I would seriously consider it if I was in the market now.

Thanks guys for the advice.... It is a hardtail and a bargain and about 6kg's lighter than my current Titan so a step up on the way to the top...
