So i have a 10spd 11-42 sunrace cassette curently on bike which works 100% with a longer Bscrew.

I want to upgrade the cassette to an 11-46 but still staying 10spd and using existing XT Shadow deraileur.

so my question is will a Goatlink do the trick and which one the 10spd or 11spd...??? The reason i ask this before everyone shouts 10spd as thats my cassette size is because on their site they claim 10 is for use up to 42t and the 11 up to 46t ...if that makes sense.

If you want to stay 10 speed then you will have to get a goat/wolf link to be able to use an 11-46 cassette.

If you change to 11 speed then you will need a new derailleur and shifter as well. No need for the goat link then

NO, I havent, I have gone the 11-42 route instead with a 32 upfront. With a 30 upfront you will have a nice granny tho.

I reckon you would need the 10 speed goatlink.

thats the problem i need someone that can confirm as i already have your setup and actually want to put a 34 upfront.

but as i stated in my first post on Goatlink site it shows the 10spd is only good for cassette up to 42t ...but the 11spd says good for 46t  ( doesnt mean you have to be 11spd )

I doubt you'll find a lot of people..... 11-46 is deep in 11sp territory.... Try it without the goatlink, if it works, great. If it doesn't, just buy a goatlink(aliexpress have for peanuts).

You wouldn't have lost anything.

IMO you should go back to 2x10, or go 1x11 as the gap jumps are going to be pretty huge with 1x10 11-46.....

obviously it doesnt work without a Goatlink of some sort or i wouldnt be asking the question.

cant and wont do 2x and Gap jumps are not that much different from the 11-42

clearly no one actually has the answer between the 2 Goatlinks  :(

Sorry, didn't read thoroughly.

10 mins of googling later......Some say that it worked fine without a goatlink, and one guy went from 11-42 with a Rad cage, to 11-46 without a problem.

I can't say if it will work or not, but I have a 10s goatlink if you want dimensions or clearance.  How much more space do you need from the current set up?

Mine was used to fit a 11/42 10s cluster onto a 1x10 road bike (with a 48t single ring in the front). worked a charm, but it does slow the shifting on the smaller gears (i.e. not as snappy).

As another idea how about keeping the 42 cluster (better for 10s imho, so I agree with KV here), and rather look for an elliptical ring up front? I would think a 32 elliptical would do the trick - you'd get a bit of extra kick for sprinting and you'd have better low end capacity than you do right now.

  have actually sent an email to Marc Lindarets to try make sense of it all.

have read good and bad about Rad cage so still not sure

might just have to get an M8000 rear mech and just run it 10spd till this cassette wears out

looks like only need a few extra mills to clear,  already have a 32 oval up front. sometimes you just need that extra Granny when you hit that unexpected Lung/leg buster

also on this cassette the second gear is a 40 compared to the 36 on the older one so using the 46 will only happen on very rare occasion

how will the 11-42t work with the long cage sram x9,

from what i researched the longer cage mechs work better right?

I am using a med cage with an 11-42 on a Hardtail and no issues. A long cage will be alot better for sure.

I've been running a X9 long cage for 4 years on 11-42, no issue

Is it the RD M 780 SGS derailleur? if so the total capacity is 43T, if so you might just get away with a 46, however dont forget to lengthen the chain either.

mine is a 786
