Can I get this running smoother???

So- have a XT long cage RD with Sunrace 11-42 cassette, and 28/42 Sram upfront, with a 2x10 Sram X9 FD.

It works - except the 42-42 jams on the FD, I dont use that gear combo on purpose- but sometimes change by accident when excited on the trails.

I like the high end of the 28/42 up front, had it imported as old 120BCD, so would like to keep running this- without spending more- any mech geniuses out there know of any quick fixes or made it work???

A free case of beer for whoever solves it - Collection only!  :whistling:

Some pics of the jamming might help - but offhand I think the FD height needs to be set with the chain in 42/42. Best thing is to hang the bike on a stand and see what happens in those gears.

will take some pics tomo when I reassemble it. Basically when on the 42 rear, and accidentally change the FD to 42, it jams, the chain twists and wont seat on the 42 chainring, and jams to a dead stop- so risk of damage is high if I had to try pedal through.

it is full length -114, also with extra long B-screw, do you think 116 would make a difference?

Wrap the chain round the big/big combo bypassing the RD. If the overlap is less than one full link you're going to come to grief. Ideally should be one link overlap at full compression on a FS.

Yeah, with droo on this one, chain probably a bit short. You can get 118 length as well - probably your best bet.

Well Mr Droo... I checked using your method, and overlapped by one link, so tried adding 2 links to check, and it seems to shift now without jamming- so it seems this could be the winner! Will take it for a test spin tomo and let you know!

So you made your bike heavier to fix a gear ratio that you will never use..

Hehe- not bothered about weight. But...  going from a 11-36 to 10-42 and a 26/39 to a 28/42 up front, hell yes- my top end is brilliant, and climbing mountains is a joke -whats there not to use??

AND- now is working sweet - so Droo, I owe you some beers!
