SLX brake leaver dripping

My SLX barkes have recently been getting soft. so i reblead them but it did not improve mutch.

 

i now noticed a puddle of fluid leaking out onto the leaver.

 

is this the end of the brakes or is there something to be done

I had the same proble at wine 2 whale last years.Did the first day with no back brakes.Had to replace it.Seal on the inside of brakes lever was leaking.

 

I still have the slx left lever if thats what you need.

just replace the olive, ask your LBS for a kit, around R50 to buy.

if you know how to bleed your brakes you'll be able to replace it, else youtube it.

thanks, but might be worth just upgrading the whole set. looks like both are doing it

There is a Post somewhere on this forum that has Rebuild of XT levers, the SLX levers are the same essentially.

I would give it a try first, If your not skilled in DIY your only option remaining is replacement.

Just make sure all o-rings are healthy and clean, if possible replace. I am aware this is not the same problem but it does detail disassembly.

If it's leaking, either the seals and / or the bladder have failed or there's corrosion in the bore. Either way, there's not much you can do about it aside from sourcing a rebuild kit from overseas - our local agents don't bring in spares smaller than a complete lever assembly.
