Cannondale SuperSix Headset top cap

Hi all,

Hoping for some help here, I have just bought a new bike and when i was putting it together I wasn't able get the head set top cap tightened more than one turn.

I initially thought it was an issue with the threads, but i removed the expansion bolt and it screws onto that with no problem. The issue is that the top cap doesn't fit into the steer tube?

Am I missing something here? The shop I bought it from aren't bothering to get back to me, seems they don't care now that they have my money.

Thanks,

Thats the wrong cap. The new forks steerer has a smaller inner diameter.

Had the same problem and machined in down. If you dont have tools for this you'll have to buy a new one :(

Thanks, this makes sense,

The inner diameter is a few mm smaller than the cap so in won't go in.

Guess it off to buy a new one. Rather annoying on a brand new bike.

The bike should have come with the right topcap in my oppinion....

Go back to the shop and ask for the right one.

Omnico / Cannondale provides you with a headset when you buy a bike / frame from them.

Your bike shop must just give you the correct cap.

Not sure why you would want the top cap to go into the steerer tube. Google cannondale supersix headset, the top cap must push against either the top of the stem or a spacer. Your problem is that the steerer tube has not been cut which is normal for a new bike.

Attached is what the full assembly looks like removed from the bike. Everything except for the top piece of the cap (black part) needs to go into the steerer, with the top flat surface pushing against the spacer/stem.

Non of the black part goes in as it is too large, meaning it will never be able to tighten?

I am trying to get it form the bike shop, but after they are in a different town and after 7 mails and un-returned calls i am starting to give up.

Ok my bad, looking at the pic it looked like part of the steerer

tube. Clearly a slip up by Omnico then. Sure they will send you the correct one without any issues.

Correct.  That black part needs to go INSIDE the steerer.

What's the diameter?

Maybe I have something in the garage for you.
