Wrist pain/discomfort/numbness

Recommended Posts

I notice during long rides I'll get like almost stabbing pain in the middle bottom of my hand just above my wrist, and for a few days after there will be thus slight feeling of numbness like you get when you sleep on your hand, from the bottom of my thumb down to that middle section.

I have odi rogue grips and with the previous bike I never had these problems with long rides on the same grips and gloves. Though that was a 26 and thus one's a 29.

Is like a bike fit problem, or a visit my doctor problem. I have done the DIY fit with plenty of hours on Google and YouTube, and thus is literally the only issue I have ridding.

Could it be a carpal issue?

Or perhaps you need to try some other grips. Something chunkier. Is the handle bar still the same width?

I went from a 680 to an 800 which is a huge difference to help with my wrist pain. I also got the newer bigger diameter bars and a very short stem. It helped immensely with pain. But I doubt we do the same kind of riding.

Have not seen much chunkier than these, I have shortened the stem but I don't actually know the width of my old bars, these are 720mm though. Is possible the old ones where wider.

I do cross country and some downhill, never have this issue when I hit the climb trails, but that's seldom more than 20km/2hrs.

Difference is suspension perhaps? Wheel diameter? I ride on 2.4 wheels. Suspension is 160 travel all around.

Perhaps some carbon bars will help as they are apparently good at absorbing vibrations.

Could also just be a case of holding on too tightly? Or not flexing your hands on long rides.

Leaning on the bars instead of staying upright using your core?

Thanks, as I wrote the message I just deleted I realised it is most likely a habit I picked up from my motorbike, my entire ride, start to finish I basically have the 2 fingers if my right hand resting on the break leaver.

Although I think I should get that fit anyway, was on my to do list.
