This is shocking!! We should put the driver plus Mr cliff on a bike and let them be ploughed over by a car. I wonder if he would then still make the statements that he does?? smiley7.gif smiley7.gif smiley7.gif smiley7.gif smiley7.gif smiley7.gif smiley7.gif smiley7.gif smiley7.gif smiley7.gif

Just don't listen to his show. I listen to Jacaranda 94.2 in the mornings. Darren Scott has a great breakfast show and doesn't try and be smart or funny or controversial. And today he had Mike Naiker and Mel Miller in the studio ? very entertaining.

Ā

Just by not listening to his show means you are just ignoring what he says, its not going to stop him from bad mouthing cyclists at all.

I feel real sorry for that group of riders, my heart goes out to the deceased and injured. (Sad that Gareth is actually proving himself to be real immature with his sassy comments and even sadder that he gets away with it in this day and age, what can us mere mortals do about it?)

this alternative crop of the pic tells another story. i assume the cop car is the support or control vehicle. looks like it has taken evasive action.

coming back to this... would it have been the right thing to do if the cop/lead car 'intercepted' the other car? interesting quandary for the driver.

The hate speech angle was tried before when Cliff previously made comments against cyclists.Ā  You would need to prove that cyclists are a community, and that the comments are likely to incite violence against the affected community.Ā  The last time the BCCSA decided not to rule on the complaints ie they tossed it out on the basis that their was no chance the complaint would be upheld.

Ā

Probably best just to let it all go anyway.Ā  Cliff's comments are unlikely to be taken seriously by those of stable mind and those that are unstable may do something stupid against cyclists anyway.Ā  I don't imagine it will have any impact on the safety of cyclists.

it is state broadcasting' date=' they dont have to make a profit so they can say what they want[/quote']

Ā

not entirely true. the ceo's of quasi-state institutions still have to make a profit. and the sabc, like any other broadcaster,Ā are bound by the bccsa's code of conduct - one of the tenets is "comment that is fair".

i certainly think so. the death of one driver to save the lives and health of many cyclists would be worth it.

I think that knee-jerk self-preservation reaction took over.Ā Possibly when you're faced with being ploughed into as the driver was faced with you just react without thinking?

Ā

I'm not saying that the driver shouldn't have tried to stop the other vehicle by crashing into it (the race vehicle is obviously in better nick and would probably have survived a crash).

The drunk driver was more than likely not wearing his safety belt, and that car damn sure doesn't have air bang. The cop car should have rammed him as his car has air bags and he should have been wearing his seatbelt. It also would have been a much softer impact for the cyclists to hit the back of the police car than to be hit like this.

good point, alida. people are all wired differently. it's that wholeĀ fight or flight thing. Ā Ā Ā

This is very very sad and not nice to look at.

Ā

I'm sure the cop could have positioned his car side on and probably been perfectly fine if the guy hit him. Everyone would have walked away ok.

Ā

In defense of the cop, I guess your natural reaction is to get out of the way, no one heads straight for an accident.Ā

There is a very good sign post pole standingĀ next to the road that looks like a goodĀ object Ā to have driven into, instead of ploughing into a bunch of cyclistsAngry

Ā

That's what I would have done

Ā

problem is that the average youngster (ie GC's target audience) are imbued with NO sense of responsibility, accountability or answerability. they have all been taught that they are entitled to whatever they want regardless of the impact on others or society - not exactly the makings of stable minds.
