Cyclists can also help themselves change the perception of motorists. A few things I do is alway thank a motorist who is waiting to turn right as I head towards them. Similarly I wave thank you to any motorist who gives me some room when they overtake. I make sure I stop on the line at a red traffic light and not push pass all the cars and sit in front of them waiting for the light to change.

Ignore it!!!!!!! thats what been happening all the time and look where it's getting us cyclist. i think better we listen, it's a bitter pill to swallow but change needs to come from both sides.

We need to clean up our act if we want to be tolerated on the roads. We may have a right to be there, but so do the motorists and their wheels are bigger, more powerfull and kill a lot quicker. I don't think we are in any positiuon to dictate policy here.

i have been living these last 21 months In a small town in Suriname South America.

The Roads are narrow, with little side walk space.

Pedestrains have right of way at all times on the roads.

Bicycles have right of way except over pedestrians

What a please to use those roads, as pedestrian , cyclist or motorist.

The roads are for all road users and the most vunerable need to have the most rights to use them

Just like in sailing, where non motorized boats have right of way over motorized boats

Once again a few cyclists who don't obey the rules make the whole cycling community look bad.

Unfortunately, its not a few RaceChick, its quite a large majority.

Okay, fair nough a lot of us here are considerate, but theres still a fair percentage who have voiceferiously defended their "Right" to jump lights, stop streets, etc and of course, who can forget the famous "only if its before 6am and someone in the front shouts clear" occassion!!.

Anyway what to do, - well you could tell them, but its generally going to go in one ear and out the other, so apart from physically holding them at the light theres nothing much we can do and sooner or later they will get taken out,........... its a given.!!

I have said it before, if you want to ride like an idiot, make sure your insurance policy is up to date so your wife and kids dont starve, and dont expect me to attend your memorial ride.!

There's one born every minute I guess.

It really goes to show that we do experience these air-heads every day in the traffic. Yes the term "common decency" has really fallen away in today's society.

Not surprising the most used word in the English language is "I". For a biker it is something else though... http://www.thinkbike.co.za/talk/phpBB2/images/smiles/razz.gif

All this technology is supposed to bring us together' date=' in fact all it really does is drive us further apart. The internet also gives crack-pots a platform to rant on and others to agree with them. In the old days all they did was tie a sign around their necks with the words "The end is neigh" They would just be laughed at and scoffed at. Today these idiots are able to write letters to news24 and have their own websites.

The rest of us - ride bikes![/quote']

so well put i had to share it!
