When the seals on the caliper banjo go it may not be pretty.

ah, ok. maybe not clear then...

i actually removed the shimano banjo, it then has the threaded end, this then goes directly into the guide caliper, these are not the S4 calipers. there are were no seals needed

caliper on the left is older caliper

Ah. As long as there's no rubber that made the trip from one brakeset to the other you're good.

Thanks for all the advise. Swopped the cables the weekend and "IT WORKED".

Had all the correct tools to bleed the system but luckily it was not needed.

Mineral oil is fine in all brake sets as far as I understand. I speak under correction, but I think it has a lower boiling point than Dot fluid, hence all the ICE Tech from Shimano. You cannot, however use Dot fluid in Shimano brakes, because it chows the seals. Hoses should be fine, just make sure they are proper clean.

Nope.

DOT with DOT systems, mineral oil with mineral oil systems. The two are not cross compatible.

Unless you have a good dentist who you think you don't see often enough.

Well luckily my brakes don't use fluid.

Why are they not cross compatible? I understand that Dot damages the seals in Shimano brakes, so safe to assume mineral oil to do the same in dot systems?
