SLX Going soft

Not new brakes. Teaching myself new things via YouTube. Did a cable swop so I suppose the front brake got air in

Make lever level - remove bleed screw (be careful with the o-ring!), insert bleed cup, add some mineral oil to bleed cup, remove bleed cup plunger, repeatedly pull and flick lever while also flicking the hose and caliper - eventually the bubbles will stop coming out and the lever will get nice and stiff. Replace bleed cup plunger, remove bleeding cup, replace bleed screw, move lever to original position, go ride.

Or something like that.

Bru, i still don't quite understand what you did with your hoses, did you take off the avid hoses and fit it to the slx's as is or?

No. Avid I but in my spares box.

Swopped the hoses of the SLX set as I like left-back, right-front brake setup.

Will try that, thanks.

Another tip I've picked up when swapping (or shortening) brake hoses is to do the following:

Before disconnecting the hose, remove the wheel and squeeze the lever gently to allow the pistons to extend out the caliper body an extra bit (be careful not to overdue it!). Thereafter, remove hose from lever body and swap (or shorten) into relevant/preferred lever body. Retighten the hose bolt and install the bleed funnel (naturally remove the bleed screw first). Add mineral oil to funnel and then push the pistons all the way back into the caliper body. This should help move any air that made it's way into the hose up into the lever (and hopefully all the way out). Perform a lever bleed (by compressing/flicking the lever- be sure to first install bleed block or reinstall pads and wheel) and you should be good to go.

It's a summarised version of what to do (not exactly step-by-step), but should hopefully help for future efforts.
