I posted the notice as the AGM should be open to every cyclist and not only clubs in good standing. There is no requirement that cyclist MUST belong to a club, and every cyclist MUST pay the regional fee when registering with CSA. This means that every cyclist that pays a regional fee should get a vote at the AGM.

The race I’m associated with had a meeting with CSA last week, to air a few concerns. Seems Gauteng cycling is in need of some positive change, but requires dedicated individuals wanting to serve on the committee (voluntary position). However, nominations closed a while back, yet this notice arrived well after the date on the notice.

Hi Guys

For those that are unsure and would like to get involved.

I think all the regions are where your involvement starts, regions are battling to get people interested and willing to take positions and actually do some work. I believe Clubs sit with this same problem.

The regions, at least CGC, is an association of Clubs and Club members and is affiliated to CSA. Our members are thus clubs that are in good standing, there are currently about 50 of these in the Central gauteng region alone. CGC in turn needs to represent these clubs at local (Gauteng ) level  nd national (CSA) level and promote cycling in the region and specifically for their clubs and club members. In my opinion at least.

Any CGC member (Club) or CSA registered individual is welcome to attend CGC meetings or request any CGC information that they feel may give them insight into the operations of CGC. They are also very welcome to volunteer their services. The Regions and Clubs cannot operate without active and involved members.

I am sure this goes for all regions. If you are not a CGC member, contact your region and ask them how you can get involved.

If we can manage to keep this thread current and not delve too much into what went wrong in the past, I am hopeful that we may find some interested parties hidden way down in the club structures that would like to get involved and  be part of the way forward for cycling in our region.

I have attatched the Gauteng Cycling (Draft) constitution here for those that are really interested in this thread, it may take you 15 minutes to read through it. Your regional constitutions should be available from the region or on their web site.

The way I read the constitution, an executive will be elected from the regions. Each region gets to elect a representative to serve on the executive on their behalf. The executive then looks at all the nominations that they have recieved and start filling the positions as per CSA guidelines, keeping in mind the individual's cridentials etc. I am hoping we will have a well represented mix of people here.

I do not think they have that many nominations at this point in time.

Gauteng Cycling can surely not be expected to operate and deliver if nobody is really interested to get involved.

Read through these files, nominate someone you truely believe can make a difference. That actually has a CV and cridentials. If you think you do not have the CV, start by getting involved at regional level.

Come  to the AGM or make sure you know when your next regional meeting is and get involved, listen, learn.

I am sure that you will be heard if you have something constructive to add or have a relevant question.

Gauteng Cycling is a relatively new body (that was created on the insistance of SASCOC), it has only been in existance for a year or so. I have never been to one of their meetings or attended an AGM for that matter. Remember this is not your regoinal AGM, it is the Gauteng AGM where the regions are brought together.

Come early and watch some track racing from 14:00 if you like.
