This is why people hate cyclists! its just a few people who mess it up for the rest!

Ja maybe...

Or maybe it's cause we wear Lycra and they are just to fat

& fugly to wear Lycra and are jealous.

Or maybe they are just jealous of our very expensive toys?

Or maybe it's

just that everyone is so fugging uptight on our roads that they ...

Or maybe its because most of those fat alcoholics need viagra before they're 40.

Surely if cyclists are blocking the rode, a simple press on the hooter is sufficient to get them out of the way. The trouble in SA is that when we drive, if someone breaks our momentum, we get the hell in - even if we're doing 100 in a 60 zone.

The reality is that cyclists should stay in the yellow line, but sometimes they don't. Hubbers aren't traffic police that can enforce the behaviour. Furthermore, the yellow lane keeps you safe from everyone except taxis (certainly true in JHB).

So - my conclusion of this fairly pointless post is, as Hubbers, set the example on your bike, and in your car.

What gets me is when you come upon a donkey cart' date='  there still are a lot here in Cape Town,  and cyclists generally travel faster than them,  no-one hoots throws a fit or gets all bent out of shape yet when you come up behind a group of cyclists riding two up everyone throws their toys.

[/quote']

I agree, a little. Remember that a donkey cart is not as small as a cycle, and therefore cannot help but block the road. As a cyclist, I move over as safe as I can, and people see that you are trying not to inconvenience them, they come past with a little "piep" and a wave at times. (not all, but some do). When people see you are trying to do good by them, the blood pressure drops and things tend to calm down.

A car gets a puncture and pulls to the side, still obstructing traffic. You see it, understand the driver didn't puncture on purpose, and drive around him when it's safe. Now imagine I puncture on my bicycle and fix the puncture in the same spot. I have the right to, as I have the right to use the road. But out of courtesy and safety for ourselves, we do the repairs on the sidewalk.

Lets accept that the louts were inconsiderate.

Is the correct response for the motorist to "show the finger" at them ?

Nobody showed any fingers, in fact, we waved for them as we passed and smile.... cause the wind was blowing very hard as well and they suffered a lot....

And if the motorist does show the finger' date=' should we not point out, in a polite manner but without backing down, that cyclists do have a place on the roads ?[/quote']

Yeah, cyclists do have a place on the road, we all know that....

My point still is, cars and trucks and pedestrians also belongs on the road... BUT.... to put your own safety as a cyclist on jeopardy for cycling on a main road in groups with heavy traffic.... STUPID !!!!!!

Glad to see you spent time on this POINTLESS post to post an answer...

If it was so pointless, why is everyone defending the cyclists?

At a previous posting earlier this year, Groot Lem told me to watch where I am cycling because he was afraid of my safety.. Did I make an issue out of it? No, accepted it and took more notice when I was cycling....Tongue

ok, carbonfreak, dubsy and a few others... i think you all need to go read yhe road traffic act () but to summarise the salient points in relation to this thread:

- Vehicles (and this includes cyclists) are to be in single file)

- You MAY NOT prevent another vehicle from passing you

- NO YOU MAY NOT RIDE IN THE YELLOW LINE!!! we do out of safety concerns, but if Mr Metro Officer catches you he MAY fine you. this is one law that i'm willing to break

these are teh salinet legal poitns.

The salient points pertaining to good manners are that you see a car behind you, you yell "car back" and you all drop to single file. really not that difficult at all and then everyone is happy.

just remember - you are displaying a clear guilt complex so if the shoe fits then wear it, but when you do so publically expect us all to see you for the selfing inconsiderate twit that you are making yourself out to be (whether or not you are we'll never know - because you've chosen the image you wish to portray!)

1.Rookie101.....how would I know you were a lady? only your hubby/boyfriend let everyone know!!!!

As a Ultimite Hubber and I "assume" cyclist of a few years, you should know the joy of riding with friends in a group

why do you feel the need to respond "with comment" to everyones comments?

Can you ever say you rode in a group that rode too far out on the road or searched for some shelter while riding in the wind, do you ride inside the white/yellow line at all times?

Give your fellow cyclists a break... they are out enjoying themselves keeping fit, your here posting comment while you should be on your bike!

every one has a right to be on the road, but honestly guys be sensable...a car will always beat you when your on a bike. there is no boss of the road so everyone must think of everyone else. yes i agree, cycling next to eachother is more fun but not when its dangerous!! trust me, it only takes you once to be hit by a car to make you realise that you do not own the road. and dont say it wont happen to you because it will if you be stupid. so please people just consider everyone else who is on the road.

Give 101 a break!!

It is amaizing how quickly we jump on our high horses when somone touches a nerve.

"cyclists are always right, never wrong, always right, never wrong, F$&k the public, we are the law"

Get a life!!

90% of us all break the laws at least 90% of the time we go for a ride and then we expect respect from the motorists..........

The only time we will have harmoney is when we respect the laws as a comunity.

My 2c's now I will run for cover for fear of being flamed.........

1. Why do you feel the need to use rude language on a public forum?

2. Why do you feel the need to trash a normal comment as a concerned fellow cyclist?

And yes, you can ask everyone on the hub - all know me as it is hard not to see me - I DO cycle in the yellow line always, unless there is not a line as in some circumstances in Western Cape.

And yes I have cycled in a group and stayed always on the side of the road for a simple reason:

Cyclist get hit by cars / trucks / taxis. We see and hear that everyday. I do not want my children visiting me in hospital while I am there because of my own stupidity...

So, if you really want to take this personal, feel welcome to pm me personaly and stop try trashing me on a public forum!!!!Angry

man or woman, you shouldn't call someone what you did. want to take a dig at someone, there are subtler ways to do it. just apologise.
