Riding South from Jhb

I am looking for a decent route to ride South from Jhb approx. 160kms to 230kms. Would be a bonus to end at some awesome accommodation for the night where the WAGs can meet us.

The route needs to avoid highways (a given), a decent enough shoulder and good road surface.

 

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

How about the ride to Parys? Depending on where you are in JHB, it's around 150+km; I'm v near Krugersdorp and that's what it is for me. Plenty of accommodation and amenities there too.

Joburg to Reitz, 220km. great day out - its the first day of our old JHB-DBN ride.

 

Edit - You should use the Strava route builder for this - if you start at home and end at Reitz (Petsana is more prominent on the map) it will build a route for you using the most popular segments. Put the route and the SA background map on your Garmin-equivalent device and you'll have a guided tour - pm me if you need help with either of these.

 

Extra note - pack one of those cellphone powerbanks in your pocket if you need a garmin recharge along the way, mine doesn't have enough battery tonavigate over about 130km.
