Broken 8 speed STI - replacement compatibility

Hello All :)

I'm currently servicing and repairing a road bike for a family member. The bike came with a full set of Shimano's 105. Shifters are 8 speed STI's, but unfortunately the rear shifter has broken and bent bits inside and cannot be fixed (tried, extensively).
I'm trying to find the cheapest replacement for the right broken STI and I'm also looking at any compatibilities with Campagnolo and SRAM, because I'm struggling to find a shimano replacement.

Based on the tables from this website:
http://www.jtekengineering.com/resources/shiftmate-compatibility/

The current full 8 speed setup should work if I only replace the right shifter with any of the following:
Shimano 9 speed road or mtb shifter (cable pull different though)

Campagnolo 8 & 9 speed shifter (cable pull different though)
Campagnolo 10 speed

This website confirms that 10 speed Campagnolo shifters should work with 8 speed Shimano groupsets:
http://pistarice.blogspot.com/2009/07/shimanpagnolo-8-speed-rear-10-speed.html

From Sheldon Brown's website, it seems like the above may not be true:
http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-spacing.html
The table shows the sprocket centers on the 8 speed cassette to be 4.8mm and this only matches with other 4.8 and partially with one 7 speed cassette.

I've also read comments that apparently any 10 speed Campagnolo shifter should work, but not sure if they will and if they're too pricey though.

Can anyone with experience of knowledge on these compatibilities please comment? The only place I can find a replacement right 8 speed STI is on ebay for around R600-650.

Why not buy the set and just use the right hand shifter (rear) to replace the broken shifter. Then you will have a spare left hand shifter that you can keep for parts, or sell later on the hub if someone is looking for that specific one - it's amazing what people search for on the hub.
