Haha, How good did that feel?

Ok so I took the Reign out to Meerendal on Saturday with a slow ride group. What a nice bunch of guys! Anyways, I absolutely DIED. That thing doesn't climb so great.

I had a ride on a Santa Cruz Tallboy Carbon 120mm. That climbed like an absolute machine!

Worlds apart but two totally different bikes.

Now get a Scott with the dual lockout for a trial run ....

TAR ... sorted !!

CLIMBING .... WOW !!  that thing rocks !!  Hardly any bobbing, and yet just enough travel that even climbing those rocks up to Dorstberg is no issue.

DECENT ... open up those shocks in the fly and she RIPS down those trails !!

hahaha sorry not laughing at you but I had a 50-60km ride on a Reign it goes down good but climbing that takes so much more effort with all the nice plush bouncy bouncy. Being relatively fit I can only imagine how you must have felt.

I agree with ChrisF get a Spark sure you should be able to demo 1 somewhere.

Yes, I struggled like you cannoy belive.

It makes me think I just just get a Levo, thats how bad it was BUT, perhaps the spark is the way to go. Too many Choices!

When I started riding MTB ath the age of 37, it was pretty tough at first on the climbs. Had to walk at times and rest often, etc. But after 6 months, it was great. It is super rewarding noticing your climbing improve, and not needing the lower granny gears anymore.

First time I went up Dorstberg I walked 90% .....

Kept to normal trails and gently rehabilitated my knees .... Second attempt I rode up all the way, BUT suffered, and thought I was going to pass out a few times ... taking extra long rests along the way ....

Yesterday was my third attempt at Dorstberg.  Think I stopped 3 times.  First purely because I spun out ... took a minute to gather my thoughts, and cycled quite a distance before I had to take a breather.  The tripple setting of the Spark HELPED a lot !  Just enough suspension movement to keep traction over the rough terrain, but no bobbing to sap away your energy....

SURE, the Spark HELPED.  But time in the saddle, and working away at it is what ultimately makes the difference .....

Dont underestimate the value of a PROPER bikefit either !!!!  I am super stocked about the work of Irma at "Bikefit" !!  I am able to put down a lot more power, and more consistantly ....

Yep, I tried not to walk anywhere. I almost got off at Stairway to heaven but carried on. It was not a long cycle at all but my word I felt it.

Maybe the Spark is the way to go, or the Genius. I am still in two minds. A Levo is now 72k. So maybe a Levo for the GF and a Spark for myself.

Update...

So, I finally bought a bike.

Its a 2019 Levo. I took one for a ride and I was super impressed.

The GF enjoys it and we did the Ride The Vines together on the weekend.

Anyways, I just thought I would let you all know what eventually happened.

Thanks for all the input!
