did you assemble the cogs in the correct order ?

did you make sure the cogs are facing the correct way ?

are the spacers in the correct places ?

did you remove all the spacers off the last bike or did you leave one on the freehub?

one of these usually works for me

Hi Bikebloke

went through the process of checking and rechecking that all the cogs are in correct order, facing the right way, spacers in correct place and nothing was left on the trainer freehub.  All that i can think of is that the cassette is tired and bent. can this happen?

Some wheels have a spacer which is put on 1st before mounting the cassette so as to use a 9spd cassette on a 10spd freebody. Alternatively the original wheel it came off doesnt need the rear spacer and the training wheel did. Is it the same locknut as used before. Check that the spacers are not different sizes and arranged incorrectly. Process of elimination.

Hi Cippo

I removed the cassette from the wheel that i am trying to install it back on again. as far as i remember when i removed it from the wheel the only spacers were those that are in the photo.  i did actually look at the spacers side by side and they are exactly the same.

i am not sure whether something went wrong on the trainer's hub as the trainer has a 11 speed hub.  i have ridden about 1500km in the past 6 months on the trainer. this is why i am thinking that something might have gone wrong.

The locknut is the original one. used another one on the trainer.

Hi, from that photo it looks like the smallest cog is the wrong way around, the metal spacer built on to that cog should face inward, I think.

I made sure again that it is right way round. tried to put it on the other way round and it doesn't look right as the grooves are sitting the wrong way

Hi Ghost.

From the pic I can see that there is a spacer between the lockring and the last cog. There should be no spacer. Also you can not put the cogs the wrong way onto the cassette body - its designed that way. Unless you are like me and modify everything with either a hammer or a grinder to see what will/can work or not.

The lockring go directly onto the last ring. They both have very flat splines and most times a very thin spacer between them that helps with the grip. Take that last spacer out and it should be good. If you are not sure post some pics of the cassette of the cassette body.

Victory!!! there was a seal (used in the trainer installation) that was stuck on which looked part of the last cog but with some brute force it popped off.  thanks a lot for all the help and helping an idiot out.
