As far as I'm aware WM 6.1 is already out.

As linnega intimates, there is an enormous amount of info, software, tweaks, rom's available for the HTC range from XDA

I know there's a WM 6.1 ROM upgrade for the tytn2, but from what I've read it's not really that great. I'll stick with 6.0 for now, since everything is working fine.

Which GPS software are you using? I'm currently running the HandyMap AI Gold trail, but it seems a little unstable.

Have a look at the HTC Touch Dual. I have one and I am very happy. I do miss my KJam's full keyboard and wifi, but I am more than happy to trade those in for a faster processor and smaller phone.

I find WM6 more stable than WM5. I've grown used to the 20-key keyboard and find that I can type without issues now. I've downloaded an extra language pack and I can now type one-touch emails in Afrikaans, too.

I'm also one of those who will in all probability never go back to a "normal" phone. I love the tweakability of WM-based phones. If you love tinkering, then this is the platform for you.

I considered the Tytn II, but the smaller shape of the Touch Dual won me over. I also don't need GPS, as I have a Garmin for that. My brother has the Samsung Blackjack and he seems happy. My fiancee has just bought a Nokia E90, but the verdict is still out on that one.

I would seriously recommend the Garmin MobileXT software with the latest (March 2008 edition) of the South African streetmaps. Works like a charm! I also have this on my Nokia running on Symbian 60.

steynja,

Where did you get the Garmin Mobile XT software from?

What do you mean when you say the Handymaps is unstable?

Found the garmin stuff here:

Looks like it'll cost roughly the same as HandyMap.

My HandyMap software stopped working after about 3 days - it just refused to load. I emailed tech support and they said, and I quote: "There is one unknown file on the MicroSD card is making

the problem. Please try move possible file to PC and try

again."

I emailed them again, trying to get specifics - what file type etc. This is what I got: "It is one of your file.  We suggest you keep

everything else on the PC."

So I did a hard reset, re-installed everything and it worked fine until this weekend. First it gave errors after I had it in cycling mode, then it gave me 'insufficient memory' errors. Reset the device, then it had issues connecting to the GPS. I haven't tried it since.

I'll give Garmin a try to see if it's any better.
