27.5+ in a 29" frame

As most know I am never happier than when I'm tinkering around with stuff so today I decided to try out some 27.5+ (27.5*2.80) tyres on my 29" Cannondale F29 hardtail .... Was a bit worried about the fit (width not height) but it fitted no worse than some standard 29r hardtails I have ridden in my time.

Just as a reference I measured the BB height before (30.5cm) and after (29.5cm) ...

For those who understand these matters should I expect any major difference in handling?

Is it still within what would be considered 'normal' tolerance?

For those who wonder why, just because I can I guess [emoji41]. Will take it for a spin through Rietvlei in the next day or 207c731d128dccea1fc346ff7ebab3b4c.jpg38d1b3e2406fb44041a2fa5599d949b3.jpg

Nice one, Ben.

As a result of the change, you may have increased pedal strikes, but improved cornering due to the lower BB & lower COG. You may have improved grip, depending on what tyres you had on beforehand. Having said that, those Titans don't seem to have a particularly aggressive tread pattern.

Thanks Captain! I'll report back after the test ride, was riding it as a Frankenstein monster cross thing before so difficult to compare.

Is the 27.5+ and the 29er close to the same or is the 27.5+ still smaller?

I've been thinking about doing the same for a time now as well with my 29er.

Used an old set of 27.5 wheels I had lying around, they have 'Alex MD17' rims ... I assume 17mm so pretty narrow but for the purposes of just mucking around they should be ok I guess

What width rims did you use? Looking good
