Pretoria East MTB Club

Hi all, I am relativelty new to the MTB scene and looking to join an MTB club to get more exposure. My wife and I have been riding the PTA East tracks/trails mostly but did a ride on Saturday with a friend of mine that has been riding for years and knows the back roads well. What an eye opener seeing some of the back roads! I just assumed that 90% of our cycling would be confined to trails, but we had a great time on the quiet dirt roads. I am terrified of getting "tyre koors", hence I have always avoided driving on any roads (gravel or tar).

With the new year coming up we are keen on joining a club in the PTA East area, especially after this weekend's ride. I have been doing some web searching and got the following clubs - some of which have trails access included in their anual fees:

-Lynwood Cyclery's club

-Bruce Reyneke Cycle's club

-Velo

-Concept Cyclery's club

-Cyclelab's club

-Wolfpack Club

-ASG MTB Club

Half of the clubs have trail access included in their fees, something that I find really enticing. However I have done other sport's clubs before and know first hand that some of the smaller clubs can lead to great exposure as there is more one on one exposure to people that love to share their passion/knowledge.

In the opinion of the more experienced riders and hopefully from members of some PTA East clubs, where should my wife and I look to join?

Hi Arries and co. :)

Someone else asked the same question for the same area recently. You can read through the brief thread here: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/179034-weekday-training-rides/

As in that thread, I am unfamiliar with the other clubs, but definitely recommend trying ASG. They have mtb rides (sometimes road ones too) every weekend, with a mix of road and off road. I'm not sure if they have a trail riding routine yet, but I'm sure johan, the new GM, would be keen to hear your interests as they are still expanding on their club rides.

Whatever you decide on, hope you all have heaps of fun and burning legs

I was part of the Lynwood Cyclery's club a few years ago.  I never got as involved as I could have due to working abroad a lot but they are a friendly down to earth bunch.

They have a good mix of riders and a couple of different groups you can join.

would recommend giving them a try
