Bike theft from locked bakkie?

Can I ask what type of bakkies?

How.is it mounted on the inside? Latches or brackets in each corner of the loadbin

Isuzu double cab. Canopy uses latches.

Seems clear from the feedback that theft from back of bakkie happens and we can only mitigate. Really swak as I considered that space safe as far as safe can be.

Wish I can leave my German Shephard in the back to catch them lol...no one goes near my bakkie when he's in.

Going to try lock to bed of bakkie or metal rod. Need to ensure that I make it harder for the scum.

Best advice is just to not leave prized items in there for too long.

crap to hear this, when I use a double cab, I also use a chain to tie it down to one of the eyelids at the back. But as mentioned before, if they want it, they will take it, we can only make it as difficult as possible to mitigate a bit. In my locked garage at home, the bike is still chained to something.

But eish, the things we have to do :(

Pretty much the world over it seems. Bikes are easy targets for crims on / in a car or in a garage. UK has a massive issue at the moment.

Based on what I've read in previous posts with insurance claims failing for bikes stolen from inside a vehicle or locked canopy ... what about a bike locked on a bike rack, gets stolen, insurance going to pay or not?

Some yes some no

Approved locks and approved bike racks and you should be fine, ask your insurer what's approved by them

I lock my bike on the back of my single cab (without a canopy) with a cable lock and eyebolt that I installed in the loadbed. I dont leave my bike like this for hours and I assume its at least as safe as being locked to/on a "normal" bike rack. My bike can rest flat on the back so I hope it is also a bit less visible for any would-be thief.

I suppose a canopy ads a little more protection or at least a bit more of a challenge.

Okay so with proper force I was able to open the locked canopy by slightly opening tailgate which doesn't lock and yanking real hard on canopy.

I can now see evidence on the canopy black hook spring stuff of forced entry. Pieces seems to have scrapped off.

Did this based on my wife's theory (which I laughed off initialy) in front of insurance assessor when the assessor told me insurance probably won't pay as there were no signs of forced entry (another shocking story, but let's see outcome first). Closed the canopy and like mentioned above closed easily. No issues with lock.

Trying to source camera footage fr. CCID to support claim as there are plenty around the specific area.

Be careful. Try not to leave your bikes in the bakkie unattended for too long.

I never leave my bikes unattended ANYWHERE but my own home. They don't even sleep in my garage. Already had a disappointed nightly visitor to my garage who was looking for my bikes.
