Me rida my bicycle Posted December 18, 2018 Share Wow was that bike used as a anchor in the sea or I guess it was outside and you live next to the sea. Best of luck with the build.
Spiny Norman Posted December 18, 2018 Share You could try a few drops of bleach or at worst drain cleaner. This helps as the alkaline should react with the corrosion formed by the (possibly) different metals (Galvanic).Be careful, as you may end up eating away at the drop-outs. DJR Posted December 18, 2018 Share Thanks. Bike was stored in a locked up bike room in the house, but at the coastWas it used on those salt roads in Namibia before storage?
partydave Posted December 18, 2018 Share Indeed it was and obviously not washed well enough after a 100km race on those same roads
partydave Posted December 27, 2018 Share Progress. The rear wheel is out and at the LBS to rebuild, although I'm on the hunt for some 50mm clinchers. The seat post is is stuck solid and also looks like the carbon weave is damaged, so a new post is on the cards as well. Everything else is dismantled and ready to be stripped of paint. Robbie Stewart Posted December 27, 2018 Share You should comfortably be able to pull of sub-6 on your new Stumpy. I am gunning for a sub-5, i.e 4:59:59 on my Camber in '19.

partydave Posted December 31, 2018 Share Current situation. All bits removed apart from seatpost which is seized solid. I'll have to cut it up most likely, I can spot some delamination anyway, so it's time for it to be laid to rest My wife has now decided that she likes this project so much, that she wants the bike. No more art bike. She wants a black and lime green bike.... A few details noticed during tear down:-The fork is in damn good nick from what I can see.-Headset needs to be replaced.-BB bearings shot, will try repack, otherwise replace-Crankset still in good nick, but will try polishing up. May lose the Ultegra logos then-Rear derailleur in fair condition, but pulleys will have to be replaced-Front derailleur still in good nick-Shifters have seen a couple of wars, but still work great. I will be 3D printing new parts for the sun damaged pieces -Need to find a new seatpost. If I can find an aero one, even beter-Apart from a broken spoke in the rear, the wheelset is in good shape, but a pair of 50mm clinchers may find their way on the bike if I can find a reasonably priced set That's it for now, hopefully by the time it's 2019, the frame will be stripped of paint
partydave Posted January 11, 2019 Share PROGRESS! Components are at my SIL to get repainted. We compromised with the colour scheme, instead of going full art bike like I originally wanted, we're doing gloss black and lime green like my wife wanted. First bit of kit arrived this morning, nothing spectacular, but will post a pic when I get home. I still require a seatpost and handlebar if anyone has something laying about
Arries87 Posted January 12, 2019 Share We compromised with the colour scheme, instead of going full art bike like I originally wanted, we're doing gloss black and lime green like my wife wanted. Seems like the compromise many husbands get to! Almost like the "ons" or "as mens" line that keeps getting thrown about and the evnetual "jy het dit nie gedoen sooos ons besluit het nie!" Keen on seeing it when it gets done!
