Butterbean Posted December 30, 2018 Share Looking to see if there are any mostly offroad routes from slummies to stellies. I know about the wannabees trails but only up to somerbosch, so anyone with a map presentation of your route would be very welcome!
Christie Posted December 30, 2018 Share Somerbosch you can cross through Audacia (part of the park run route) then left onto singletrack through the pine forrest. Follow the Stellenrust dirt road, then go left onto the fynbos singletrack parallel to the dirt road on Stellenrust. Go back onto the tar for a short while, turn into Mont Marie gate. Short distance up the brick road turn left onto the Stellies trail network. Can then go Eden-gspot-Coertsenburg Edited December 30, 2018 by Christie
Christie Posted December 30, 2018 Share Alternatively, from Sommies go through Pointsetia park (dams next to R44), cross Steynsrust bridge. Follow the singletrack to Bike Hanger. Then follow R44 to Longridge turn. Right, go up the tar road then left through Longridge. Follow route markers through Longridge, turn right @ the brick road to Ernie Els. There are sevrral routes there (poorly maintained) and some markers here and there. From those you can connect to Sellenzight, and follow the new Conrad Soltz built singletrack run down to the Stellenrust dirt road. Note - only section 1 and 2 was open, ladt time I was there. Part 3 was under construction, but I dont know if it has been completed of the Stellenzicht run. (But you can still route through) Edited December 30, 2018 by Christie
PjT Posted October 22, 2019 Share BUMP - Anybody that can give some updated info on these routes and what is open to public, and which ones are only allowed with a permit (eg. Wannabees) ? I know the Wannabees trails has entry point at Somerbosch, but I am more looking for a route on the other side of the R44. Especially from the BIke Hanger up until Stellenbosch Square about. From there onwards there are plenty of cycling/pedestrian dedicated paths separate from the cars on the R44 to take me to Stellebosch CBD. Would really like to throw in a dirt commute once a week if possible - especially now in Summer. Edited October 22, 2019 by PjT

The route that Christie described is your only option AFAIK.
