  1. Thanks all. Z2 was my fist option, and now confirmed. I came to realize the model with the reba 100mm is the RC (race) version, leaning more towards XC, and the other more trail. Cheers
  2. Hi all. Which of these would you rate/recommend on a Merida 120 (2022/2023 model)? Currently looking at two available bikes where the specs are the same, except the forks differ. I ride winelands south trails, helderberg, Stellies area....weekend warrior that will go and plan to explore the odd other trails in the coming year (i. Banhoek, Tokai etc). Currently riding Silverback Slade Trail with Fox 34 140mm up front. Let me hear your thoughts....??
  3. So this is interesting....they refined/redesigned the Merida 120 I very much liked the previous design with the rear shock upright like the Giant Trance and Scott Spark....funny how one's perception is. It looked a lot more like a fun/trail bike. Now the shock is underneath the top tube, which looks too much like a XC bike instead of a Trail bike. https://www.merida-bikes.com/en-gb/p/product-news-bikes/the-new-one-twenty-630.html
  4. Hi all, Is there anybody in/around Somerset west who would be willing and able to borrow me a chain breaker (for 12 speed chain) and crank puller tool to remove Race Face crank? Would be very grateful...thx
  5. Hi Ruben, Yes, I saw that one at Bike Addict, and was almost on the way to buy it, but then saw a new/unused 12sp Deore (M6100) on the hub selling for less, and figured either way I have to buy a new derailleur and chain for any new wide range cassette; so decided the extra $ for microspline free body and 12sp shifter is worth the upgrade (and I get a 10 instead of a 11 at the smallest cog). Will advertise the 11 speed setup (shifter, chain, cassette, derailleur and chainring and HG body) on here when the 12 is done and fitted.
  6. HI Dave, Thank you for the reply / advice. Was not aware that NX cassette runs on HG hub. Now I do! 🙂 My current 1x11 is Shimano (XT/SLX) with ratio of 11/46T. I already purchased a brand new Deore 12 speed cassette (10-51T) from a fellow hubber, and am working on the rest of the parts as I go along.
  7. Thanks for advice. I read that post that was on here sometime ago relating to compatibility of Stans/Lyne hubs and free bodies. So think you are right. that means besides a Lyn hub owner, there is one more possible taker for whom the Lyne HG hub might work, although still only small target market. Convinced the bearing will still be good, has not seen alot of mileage, and nothing extreme at that....so when removed will clean and take good photos and see what bites. 😉
  8. Hi Meezo, I already have the Lyne hub on my wheel, with the HG freebody installed.
  9. Hi all, I currently have a 1x11 and decided to go 1x12. Current rear hub is Lyne JB03 (like this) with Shimano HG free body. Lyne sells a microspline freebody (R1250) which will make the conversion possible, so all good. But my question is: is the Shimano HG Free body somethin that will sell 2nd hand? As far as I know, Lyne hubs/free bodies are only compatible with Lyne hubs, correct? So, is the assumption correct to say that only someone with Lyne hub would be a potential buyer for this Free body?
  10. Great, sounds good. I just talked to someone at Ryder/Omnico, and he confirmed that spares/repairs are 100% available in the event that something happens. Waiting to hear who stocks these in my area.
  11. Jip, I also like to BOA version - nice and clean look!. Wondeing how durable the system is? thoughts? I am also going to ask Ryder if they stock replacement cables/parts like you get with BOA system on "other" brands.
  12. Thanks for the advice and referral to Ride Concepts. Good looking shoes yes, however in clips only khaki which will get dirty very quick I think. Prefer black. I have many times considered going flat; seeing as I am not a racer, more of weekend warrior doing mixed trails in/around Stellies/Somerset West primarily. If I get these Ryders, I can try them flat too, seeing as they have removable rubber section to cover up the cleats.
  13. thx, I agree, a lot of their products are good and solid, and at fraction of the expensive brands. Mate of mine has that saddle, and also very happy with it. I will contact Ryder to find out who in Somerset West stocks these, so that I can try them on. If I buy, I will be sure to report back here.
  14. There are two types: laces or cable closure. Found the best prices at Bikeaddict. Laces: R 1290 https://bike-addict.co.za/products/ryder-berm-lace-mtb-shoe?variant=44101336301865 Cable: R 1690 https://bike-addict.co.za/products/ryder-berm-atop-mtb-shoe
  15. Hi all, I am looking at purchasing a new pair of shoes. I see Ryder has these Berm Lace shoes that look quite nice, and not too pricey. https://rydercycling.co.za/index.php/ryder-products/shoes/ryder-berm-lace-detail Has anyone tried these yet?
