Hi guys. I have been looking for used cassettes 11/ 32 for my 9 speed road bike. And the outcome was that not many 11/32 cassettes are doing the round and 9 speed.. it would mean changing my rear derailleur (Tiagra) as well to a long cage? Out of frustration i bought a used set XT 9 speed cassette and derailleur for R300 and fitted it to my road bike. It was success and the indexing on the Tiagra shifter is spot on. Thought i would share if there are guys who needed more gears for steep climbs. Anyone had this done with no success or long term damage?

Hey..

I think it's been discussed a fair bit, re mixing road/mtb shifters and deraileurs.

7/8/9 speed shimano all interchange. 10/11 don't. However an mtb shimano 9 speed RD will shift really smoothly with 10 speed road stuff.

SRAM seems to interchange freely up to 10 speed. I currently use 10 speed double tap shifters and an short cage XO clutch with a wolftooth goat/road link so it can comfortably run a 42 on the gravel bike.

Mixing and matching is part of building awesome bikes!

Glad it works so well. Many happy miles.
