Hi,

My advice would be to wait until the end of the year and pick up a highly discounted 2008 model from a shop in SA or take a risk with the fit and buy online from another country.

At the beginning of this year I bought 2 Kona Zing Deluxe's from Chainreactioncycles.com. The 56cm(which cracked) was ?1000 and the 53 was ?900 and they both retailed at ?1800 so that was a large discount. I also bought a Kona Zing Deluxe from Wiggle.co.uk for ?1150.

As far as I'm aware the 2008 model is exactly the same but with a white frame.

Never pay the retail price for a bike and by the way, chainreactioncycles.com took back my cracked frame after having it for 2 months and gave me a full refund with apologies - very pleased with the customer service.

I still love Raleigh road bikes for their great specs at competitive prices. I have an RC7000 with full Ultegra groupset. It's been going like a dream for 2.5 years now. I paid R14k then when it first came out as a limited edition. I saw it in Westdene Cycles earlier this year for R10999, and you'll get discount on top of that. So before the prices take a serious hike upward in August this year onwards, go grab one! Even if it is your first road bike, get Ultegra. You'll regret having 105 in no time (believe me, you feel the diff), and by then you'll be sitting with a bike you don't really love and a new one will be beyond your reach. My best advice...

go 4 a second hand bike. I wouldnt even think twice about it.

Personally i would say rather go for a good alu frame than carbon. REALLY not such a big diff. more hype and a huge price difference.

Pimp out on the wheels, most important part of the bike, me thinks. gruppo - 105/ultegra mix should be perfect. Dont go below 105.

I now ride sram rival - cheap and I prefer it to my Dura Ace. I you can get a deal on that it would be great.

should be easy to get a Great bike for around 10K. Just might take some time and I do suggest that you take you time rather than rush.

You can contact Avron at 021-4480812. The also got great prices and deals in 2nd hand bikes. Although they are in cape town i'm sure they will give you an idea what you can expect.

If you gonna buy a road bike, get an idea of your ideal geometry and fit. ?Don't buy a frame that deviates toomuch from your "fit"even if it is a bargain.

Consider "unknown" road brands, as you will get a better spec for your money. ?Ideas: ?Coicc, raleigh, silverback, Kona (they make road bikes?!), Marin, ext.

Remember that almost every year for the last 5 years either shimano or Campy has updated their groupsets, so older groupsets may be cheaper as well. ?
