  1. No problem to 'sag' ride...hell I try my best to do it. Riding on the wrong side of the road, having incoming traffic pull off to the side of the road is a helluva problem in my book. Sorry if wasn't clear about the specifics.
  2. I rode in the B bunch and MAN I was shocked at how little people feel for cycling across the white line. No wind, no gutter, slow speeds and people put their own lives and the others at risk. Special mention must go to Francois from Manic Cycles. I know him as a fairly decent chap, but racing as far as possible to the front on the downhills - squeezing in and then dropping back on the hills - not cool. As I know him and not shy I did ask him (politely) to ride sensibly and he told me to go fly a kite. It got progressively worse towards the end and I even saw a youngster punch a old toppie in the face/helmet. Not the race organisors fault and I felt so bad for bike marshall. I am very glad to read that the other groups were better, guess it was just one of those days. I would really love the organisors ban the white line crossers. Not a new problem, but a really big issue and would only be resolved if cyclist know it results in immediate disqualification. It is dangerous, irresponsible, drag our sports name through the mud and and accident due to this with a vehicle will probably have races banned. Only other issue is the e-bikes joining normal groups. Nothing against ebikes, but you cannot cycle in the same groups, the whole idea of seeding is to group people of similar abilities. Having ebikes in the groups can really do a number on groups catching each other and a myriad of other issues. Lastly we had a guy with TT bars in the group - this is something every marshall should be aware of and a person cannot ride in a bunch with TT bars. Vent over - Enjoyed the event, as I always do, well organised and have everything you would want from a road event. Also couldn't find coke at the end, which would have been nice, but not a train smash.
  3. I thoroughly enjoyed the park. It will really improve all aspects of your game. Bit bigger than I thought and can keep you busy for quite a while. The park has a deal with Bottelary BUT not with Winelands to be included in the yearly pass. It's a shame as I assume the Winelands regional is supposed to give the same benefit as each individual zone. I do think it is great value for R 70.00 and worth a drive. A bit of a lower price for kids that is only skilled for the kiddies section might be nice as it's quite small and can only keep them entertained for a limited time.
  4. Winelands clearly says it is included, but will try to get to the park today for clarity and a ride either way.
  5. I'm definately going to give this a bash. Just a questions on the permits - I'm a annual winelands member, which includes bottelary hills - does this include the bike park then as well?
  6. What type of riding are you looking for?
  7. I did not receive a mail saying I can enter.
  8. I did it and was a great experience. Personally, I'm putting my own trail 'event' together. I cannot justify the cost vs extra value doing it through an event organiser. No beer tent, music, mc or vibe at the end was a big let down for me. All the routes are on SANPARK routes. Total cost for me and the wifey was about R 12k with accommodation, buses and everything else.
  9. Stolen: Merida big 99 2014 When: 15 September 2016 Where: Cape Town, Western Cape Bike was stolen from home. Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section
  10. I just entered.....where on earth do you find info regarding facilities, food etc. Like what you posted, but more on the rest of the festival. The only info I can get ANYWHERE is the little race poster.
  11. Stolen: Cannondale Rush 2016 When: 17 July 2016 Where: Cape Town, Western Cape Bike was stolen off bike rack while inside shop. Bike doesnt have 50 km, brand new. Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section
  12. Person dependent, but if you are analytical not much comes close to a PM. Need a coach or read the literature on how to use it though.
  13. So the insurance let me know they are replacing the frame! Pretty sweet, no hassles whatsoever. Giant also let me know I can sell the frame and carry over the lifetime warranty seeing as I havnt done one km on it. So new question.....How much do I sell a new Giant TCR Advanced with new Giant PA-2 wheels (neither 1 km) with secondhand dura Ace groupset for?
  14. Bike is currently at Giant Concept store in Durbanville so couldnt do the coin test. Will update as I get more info. Will see what the insurance says, I'm pretty sure they are going to make VERY sure it is a claim before paying out. If it isnt a crack, fantastic. Can then sell the bike without wondering if the buyer is going to break his neck.
  15. It is at the spot where it clamps. But I don't think it was the rack as my bike rack has the elastic fasteners.
  16. Thanks for the feedback. I spoke to Hannes van der Walt at Giant Durbanville. He told me to bring the bike in so that he can take it to Giant for inspection. Think it is the best solution. Will post pic to show the crack. Maybe we can start a poll / betting system and I will reveal in the end.
  17. So my frame has a little crack on the paint. A mechanic told me I must have it checked out as it can be the carbon that is cracked. I asked a around and no one seems to be able to tell me with certainty that its the one or the the other. The bike is insured, but I do not want to submit a claim if it isn't a claim and also to not want to skip the claim process if it is a valid claim. All input will be appreciated.
  18. Bibs and the padding are very personal. I'm lucky and I don't mind very little or lots of padding. When I ordered DC kit people (all very established cyclists) preferences varied from little padding to diaper type padding. Personally I prefer brands where the material lasts long and doesnt go see-through after a season or two.
  19. http://www.stuff.co.za/garmins-forerunner-920xt-has-landed-wants-to-keep-you-moving-this-december/ Anyone got their hands on one yet?
  20. Serious Fail....quite funny. So Liberty and more specifically Own Your Life rewards sponsors the Burger. By the mail sent out last night it is clear the are pushing the product hard. Being a broker and getting very bad service from them I quickly decided to phone as customer and find out about some of their benefits......So the day after one of their biggest marketing launches you only a get a message 'Sorry we are closed for our year-end function'. That is bad timing. Try them on 0860 690 908.
  21. Ok, need to distract you with different thread. So how about these people on fondriests, huh? But seriously, it would make me the douche if I name and shame after he mailed me now. Not that I'm not generally a douche but like to hide it from most people. Anyway, thought this is a cool pic for sponsorship. This guy didnt smell at all....must be the Mitchum! http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f227/Fanie_Nel/2014-11-22141307_zpsa015a1fd.jpg
  22. Quick update. Hi promptly came back to me after after the mail and link to the post here. I am going to try and have a coffee with him when picking up the kit to have a chat. Maybe we can walk away from this as friends. It really felt harsh airing this on thehub, but was painted in a of niceness and was time to take out the stick. Naming and shaming wont do anyone any good at this stage. Apologies that handbags weren't slung harder! This was the first year that I were 'team manager' and to see the amount of effort that goes into the organisation. Lots learned and look forward to next year!
  23. Hi, quick clarification. Riders could keep the kit after the DC. It was my understanding that you actually had to do the race to qualify to keep it though. The supplier had an expensive or normal option. Our budget allowed the normal option to be sponsored but little bit to be paid in if you wanted the more expensive option. I always try to be accommodating and gave the riders a choice. I did send a mail to the team stating the budget constraints and that if you pull out due to any reason you have to give the kit back (and be refunded your upgrade money) or you can keep the kit, but pay in the part you were sponsored so that we can offer the same deal to your replacement. The only reason why I could offer the bloke free kit was because the person that pulled out before him paid in the difference and kept the kit. This person joined our team very late though and did not receive this mail. I did however expect common courtesy and that he will be willing to help me out seeing as how I help him out and tried to make him part of a very close team. Whatever the outcome is I hope he thinks of his actions. He is very young and everyone in the team liked him, he not only ignored me but others on the team as well. Everyone is a bit miffed at him for that. After this no one in the team will think much of him and he effectively alienated 11 cycling buddies. The cycling fraternity is not that big that you annoy (expletive) 11 people and word doesnt get around. I sent him the link to the discussion so he is more than willing to engage or not. I do not want this to become a mud slinging contest, but would really like to know what his thinking is.
