BikeGenie Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 So I almost killed a cyclist this morning, who failed to stop at an intersection..... which I had a green light for. He shouted at me as I came to a dead stop, looked at the traffic light, realized I had right of way, and shouted again what sounded like an apology as he continued to his destination. I now hope he arrived safely. What ensued from my vexed frame of mind was a mouthful of expletives shared with my WhatsApp (read therapy) group. All I had was hate for him at the time for putting me in that situation. My Spidey senses did not alert me to his intention to cross the road. If he had collided with me he would not have been aware that I had a green light. I would most probably have been held responsible for his transgression. With cycling awareness being heightened at this time of the year I would've had a mammoth task of proving my innocence. PLEASE CYCLISTS pay attention to the rules of the road.

BOTH from bad cycling and from absent minded drivers, not to mention the bad and aggresive drivers .... I now treat every intersection and robot as a yield sign - stopping to check if it is safe before crossing. Absolute worst are those where I have to turn right ... I STOP, and wait until it is safe ! Too dangerous to rely on a "green light" ... Just GLAD nobody got hurt this time !!
