Thermophage Posted March 11, 2019 Share Good day Has anyone ordered a complete bike from CRC and what was the service on "bulky items"?A complete bike will carry additional shipping costs over and above a frame (you will be able to see this if you add to your basket on CRC).However...a complete bike WILL ALSO mean import duties, as opposed to a frame which is duty free.I don't recall offhand exactly, but the duty is about 15% (or was it 25%).So let's say for simplicity the cost price of the bike (without shipping as shipping is not included in a duty) is R1000.You would then be paying 15% duty on that, so R(1000*1.15) = R1 150. Then in addition to that you will pay VAT on that value (VAT at 15% plus a small handling fee, so we usually work on VAT+1%).In this case R(1 150 * 1.16) = R1 334. Then your shipping on top of that.Hope that helps. Dusty and ClunkerDude
ClunkerDude Posted March 11, 2019 Share It does, thanks :-) Being South African my concern is also, whether the bike will reach it's intended destination (in one piece) and how long it will take with SAPO? Not sure if you have any experience on this.
Thermophage Posted March 11, 2019 Share I have shipped 2 frames from CRC ti RSA using SAPO before. They arrived in about 6 weeks AFIR.But yes, you can never be too sure with SAPO at present. It may just get stuck in JHB customs. If they have a DHL (Skynet now I believe they use) then see what that costs?

aiyaaz Posted March 11, 2019 Share I have experienced much of what was is discussed in this thread as well: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/175651-experience-with-crcs-move-from-dhl-to-skynet/?hl=skynet Of course it is not guaranteed that you will experience the same, but there is a large enough risk that you should be aware of.
