Sti and Xt compatibility

I am considering fitting a gravel drop bar on one of my bikes.

The bike currently has 11 speed 1x XT on.

So if I put a drop bar with mechanical disc brakes and 105 11 speed sti on, would the sti's and the XT rear derailleur work together?

If not, what derailleur would I need?

9 speed STI and MTB RD are compatible.

 

10 speed STI and 9 speed MTB RD (pre-dynasys) are compatible for 10 speed shifting. Mine works a treat!

 

Beyond 11 speed, AFAIK they aren't compatible and I'd bow to Ferro's view...

I had this setup for a while too. Also worked well. Then they had to go make things difficult...

Im keen to also try the drop bars on a hardtail of mine, but im thinking of going the cheap route! That way i dont need to buy road shifters, and i can also still run hydraulic brakes instead of going to cable calipers. It would basically be a combination of the 2 pics i attached. The 3rd picture is the bike im keen to try it on, but im going to get a much shorter stem. But looks alright i think. With that setup it will just be a pity that you cant ride on the hoods (cause there wont be any obviously)
