Vetseun Posted April 17, 2019 Share I am considering fitting a gravel drop bar on one of my bikes. The bike currently has 11 speed 1x XT on.So if I put a drop bar with mechanical disc brakes and 105 11 speed sti on, would the sti's and the XT rear derailleur work together? If not, what derailleur would I need? Ferro Posted April 17, 2019 Share When I looked into it, I found that if they don't you can use this little piece of sorcery:https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/collections/derailleur-optimization/products/tanpan And some more about it here:https://advntr.cc/wolftooth-components-tanpan/ I haven't tried it myself yet though. Fat Boab Posted April 17, 2019 Share 9 speed STI and MTB RD are compatible. 10 speed STI and 9 speed MTB RD (pre-dynasys) are compatible for 10 speed shifting. Mine works a treat! Beyond 11 speed, AFAIK they aren't compatible and I'd bow to Ferro's view...

Jacoo Posted April 18, 2019 Share Im keen to also try the drop bars on a hardtail of mine, but im thinking of going the cheap route! That way i dont need to buy road shifters, and i can also still run hydraulic brakes instead of going to cable calipers. It would basically be a combination of the 2 pics i attached. The 3rd picture is the bike im keen to try it on, but im going to get a much shorter stem. But looks alright i think. With that setup it will just be a pity that you cant ride on the hoods (cause there wont be any obviously)
