JohanDiv Posted August 26, 2019 Posted August 26, 2019 I had a very pleasant surprise (except that I did not plan accordingly!) yesterday when I went for a cruise on the orange. Not at all the farm roads, vineyard block riding with the odd bit of singles inbetween. That was awesome! Quick question though. A good while back we ran then black route and hit a great flowy section right at the top coming back. When coming down from the mountain yesterday, I saw what I thought was that turn-off, but it looked blocked. Is that bit still in existence? Is that not the top section that runs in reverse now? I'm planning a 80-90km loop for next week Saturday up the mountain reserve, down Rheboks Black, around on the orange, play a bit at Spice Route and back around to town through the Diamant Forest. Will let you know what I find.. Apparently they have been working on quite a few new sections that I want to go check out.
SeaBee Posted August 26, 2019 Posted August 26, 2019 Johan, the section I was talking about is basically... that climb that takes you from RBK out to the mountain or where you can turn off into singles back down. Towards the top of that you turned right (coming from bottom) after a steepish bit. That section then crossed the climb to go into the "original" black singles. I still saw the "Beware riders crossing" board coming down, but maybe I just missed the correct entrance to that section.

There where you used to cross the climb coming down the flowy single track, going up the climb that's where you turn right now and climb the single track in reverse to the top. Then you go down (left) on the old climb and turn right at the crossing point. Not sure what their thinking was there..maybe that top section of the climb was too steep for some folks, or maybe they just wanted to eliminate the possible risk of a crash having a crossing where you could travel with some speed going down that flowy bit across the climb. I still do the flowy bit down when the trails are quiet though.. You've done the orange trail now, so you know their love of little bridges everywhere by now haha..they should've just put a bridge at that crossing as well!
SeaBee Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 Prefer the bridges (though there was one at the end of a climb that was a bit of a nervy approach!) to having to climb over gates that are closed in such a way that I give it one quick look and think... this is going to take longer than going over - without the risk of not closing it properly again. Thanks for the feedback. That looked like such an epic section when we ran it - will still try it on a quiet time. JohanDiv 1
stefmeister Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 That cave is intimidating the first time, but stop, check it out, grow a pair, and ride it. You will NOT regret that decision...unless you spill, then you will definitely regret it The rock garden is another story altogether. I walk it. They already paved that section. How much further do they have to dumb it down. Robbie Stewart 1
babse Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 planning a ride at Rhebokskloof this weekend, is all areas open for riding? permit available at entrance or should purchase before hand?
JohanDiv Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 (edited) planning a ride at Rhebokskloof this weekend, is all areas open for riding? permit available at entrance or should purchase before hand? Babse easiest would be to sort your daypass beforehand. The guys at the trail centre sometimes aren't there yet if we start our rides too early. Here's a link: https://paarladventuretrails.co.za/event/day-pass-2/14083200/ Edit: Snapscan/Zapper/Honesty box are also options, but then you are without visible proof on the trails. I'd rather not chance running into a landowner without a permit board on me. Edited October 14, 2020 by JohanDiv babse 1

The Black/Red seems adequate for a solid ride.Look forward to it.

Definitely go Black Route if you have time. It's just like a 200m elevation longer climb, but the exrta singletracks down are worth it. babse 1
