Demo a handlebar?

I don't think a setup is going to help if your problem occurs when you're out of the saddle. You're just going to waste money that you could've spent buying bars and testing.

I also don't think a bike set up will make any sort of difference to this. It is a 'feel' situation rather than a performance one.

I wouldn't get a 'riser' stem. But try a bar with more rise as suggested.

I have rotated my bars 'forward' so that the rise is a bit more pronounced and the backsweep less prominent.

I was fiddling and it just felt 'better' so I left it. Haven't looked back.

I would suggest chatting to someone like Cliff Becket or the guys at CSixx who have access to different test or demo models of things. They might surprise you with what they are willing to do.

Currently have a 40mm stem on there so can't go much shorter here.

Perhaps my innitial post should've had more detail.

My main issue I am trying to adress is that I feel as though my cockpit is too low when out of the saddle.

Not sure about more spacers under stem as there is about +-5mm between end of steerer and top of stem. Dont know why Trek decided to cut the steerer so short on a L bike, but think this is a problem most bike companies create by pre cutting the steerer to a set length for bike size.

Tring to find a short stem (max 50mm) with more than 0degree rise is like hens teeth, should you own a trek with knock block...

You can get a knock block adaptor. Basically it is a spacer that handles the knock block bit, then above it you can put any stem you want. You do loose the knock block feature though
