Ramrod

Recommended Posts

I did search to see if there was already a thread started but didnt find one.  Thought we could have a group who want to talk about this years Munga and maybe some of the guys and girls who have done if before can also offer some tips.

That being said i would like to find out what saddles most guys are using.

Munga riders are so hard they don’t use saddles.

Not this rider!  I am trying to find a saddle that will work on my MTB while i am on the tri bars

My buddy has done it three times and is a top 10 finisher.  He uses the Ride Farr saddle, and has just completed the Silk Road challenge with it as well.  I recommended it to him after I found it pretty comfy, and I'm still using it too.

Well with a handle like Ramrod.....

Good luck man, and respect for taking on such a massive challenge. I hope it goes well for you.

Looks every so slightly like a power saddle.

It does, but it's got a bit more padding.  I find it more comfy.

  • 4 weeks later...

58 days to the start.....or is it 'the end'......by now I've read Carlog's musings and Mike W's blog to the point where I can recite it by heart....I'm so tired of excel spreadsheets that my eyes hurt....my boss has given up on trying to get me to be productive and I'm convinced there are not enough hours in the week to do the amount of training I should be doing.  I've rigged my bike up with extra bottle cages, tri-bars, light and batteries....everything except the bag that sticks out the back of the bike.  Made the mistake this past weekend of riding without a Camelbak - oh wow, FREEDOM......now to try figure and reconfigure so that I don't have to take it with.....but what if....

I had GPS issues at the start of the 6-hour  (glad it happened on a mini so I could figure what to do when the GPS freezes) so ended up pretty much on my own till just before the waterpoint....I try to ride these MM's at close to the max time - figuring my ass needs to know how it feels to be in the saddle for a really long time.....

yeah, I also realised that with the last Garmin update some of my settings had gone screwy. There is a new climb screen that came on when I started the climbs and at one point on the first climb the path split. Fortunately there was a rider in front of me so I could follow him.  Realised very quickly that I don't know how my GPS works properly.

Not able to make this weekend's 8hr, but I recall seeing a Ventana, if that was you at the 6 hour (I was on a Yeti single speed). Not many Ventana's around, nice bike! I managed to kill my rear tyre 30 odd kms in and then restarted right at the back. A 3cm sidewall cut on a normal dirt road - Conti  is off my list  (It was a Crossking Protection 2.2)

It sounds like you need new reading material :whistling: : there's another (very thorough) blog - Rob Walker's https://www.justkeeppedalling.com/tag/munga2018?order=asc

If you are going to be doing a bit of this long haul stuff (and it seems you are) why not invest in a dyno hub? I have one. It is a whole spare wheel. Use it for my touring. Works like a charm. Just one normal battery and it charges everything perfectly.

Tempting......gravelandtour.co.za has some attractive options.......

Thanks to Adrian who helped me yesterday when my Garmin mount broke while doing the 8hr mini Munga.
