Spraying a wheelset?

Any advice from guys that have tried this with a rattle can please? I know this could never achieve a perfect result. But might get close enough... maybe, maybe not....

i have just had my rims sanded down, resprayed with new decals, respoked and bearings done for R2500... not worth doing a half measure

Edit: Perhaps I should start out by saying that I've never done it........

 

.........but if you do want to spray it yourself, then get the right paint. Automotive 2K paint can now be bought in a rattle can. Once mixed, you have to use it within a certain time, but it is much harder than the usual rattle can rubbish that you can scratch with your finger nail. Ask at a good motor spares place. Alternatively, Rustoleum and Hammerite make pretty solid paints that you can buy from most hardware shops. 

 

I would completely disassemble the wheels before cleaning and sanding the rims and only then spraying them. Re-assemble only after paint has had a few days to set 100%. It is going to be a lot of work, so be prepared. If you want to spray without total disassembly, then Just Don't.

A good de-grease and a spray with Plastidip will also last pretty long. Really depends on how much you are willing to spend.
