Sky did a massive test about this using science and stuff and I think they rubbished the idea.

The numbers centred around power vs effort all pointed to shorter cranks being better for sustained efforts. (obviously up to a point before someone says why not use 15mm cranks!)

I'm not having a go at you, but what you have said is one of the main reasons cycling is where it is. People have taken 1970 'theory' and kept applying it. Only in the last 10 years have we thrown the out dated rule book out the window and look at the advances?

I think you will find that a lot of what we have been taught to believe is really just the industry and it's consumers failing to move forward.

I'm rustig!!

SKY is all into marginal gains.  Riding races of 4,5,6 or 7 hrs at 40kph+

I'm a MAMIL and I complete against MAMIL's.  Hell Leon Olivier sometimes rocks up with his old steel Daccordi with down tube shifters and gives Gary Beneke hell.  So when you get you our age, we ride with what we know best I would guess.

To Eldron point, the shift it by a few mm, so the effect should be minimal (although I'm sure I feel less powerful with wmy 172.5mm Cx cranks!!!!!)

Bottom line, I'm too old to worry about crank length.  I need to worry about the extra 7kg on my waist line.

Absolutely. But I think for MAMILS and weekend tonkers like me, comfort is really important.

I like comfort, it's also why I have some kg to lose... comfort food!!!

My only concern about going from 172.5 to 165 is that in theory the saddle will go up (no problem) and that the front end should too.

Maybe I should try going to 170 first, what do you all think?
