My cars are insured for retail value, what insurance companies are fond of doing is putting up your premiums on the original value , even though they will only pay out current value. When i receive notice of premium increase i phone them and ask them to adjust.

cyclesure jus quoted me R141 per month?  expected them to be cheaper than Outsurance?

to be honest my car claim a few years back was quick with outsurance

i can always contact them, and their emails are always prompt....

the people answer my questions ....

maybe that little extra is for their great service :)

ok ...  I poke to three consultants and the manager and they are adamant that if the bike is locked to the bike rack that it is covered ...

for the record I have everything with them:

Car - R 630.35 (Excess R2500)
House Contents - R155.77 (R200 000)
Bike - R132.68 (Excess R400)

Comments?

just double check that the STi's, wheels, derailleurs, cables, brakes, pedals, etc, etc are also covered. and just confirm that you are covered (and in detail what for) if you have paid money to participate in an event for which the winners will receive money (even if you are not eligible to receive said prize money)

short term insurance was my game for many many years.

Does anyone have a bike insured with outsurance and have the documentation in front of them where they can quickly check the small print for the locked to bike rack situation?

What options are there with bike insurance at the moment?

Outsurance

Cyclesure

What else.  I need to revise my current policy with outsurance and at the same time I will shop for the best price.

I have been reading all the posts here and am amazed at the excess payments being quoted.

I pay R50 per car for no excess whatsoever and use of hire car ( my motorcycle was included for no excess at n/c ). The premiums with the R50 was still cheaper than outsurance.

Broker has moved underwriting business, so am still waiting to see if premium increases, unlikely though I am told.

This is just for my cars, not sure what the bicycle situation would be.

Your car depreciates in value every year, so should your payments...I have a sneaky suspicion that they increase it by lots, so that when they drop it to half, one is happy (when in actual fact, they should be dropping it!!)

My relationship with Outsurance is perfect. I pay them every month for the bike and rack, and neither party hope to ever hear from the otherBig%20smile

Mine would be a claim and theirs would be a price increase...

all things considered - what is the suggestion for who to go with?

cyclesure / outsurance / pedalsure?

(isn't pedalsure part of cyclesure?)
Posted

will outsurance still pay out if you say reversed your car into the bike? or your bike fell off the rack while on the highway?

Posted

i have a principal problem of paying cyclesure on the basis that i cannot insure the bike as a whole amount, but have to specify each part (which adds up to a lot more!)...

this means that i pay a massive amount each month for 4 bicycles.

the real issue lies therein that i want my bikes insured against "write-off" accidents (in race or by car) but will replace single parts myself...

any comments? / suggestions?

i have spoken to cyclesure again and they have assured (insured... haha) me that i only need to list the components in order for them to have a better understanding of what is exactly insured so that they dont get claims for exsample where someone lost a shimano 105 groupset and then claim for dura ace to be replaced...

this means that you can insure your cycle at replacing cost value.

i would advise people that cyclesure has a more extensive cover than outsurance.

(PS: pedalsure is a broker for cyclesure...)
