nickvink30@yahoo.com Posted January 20, 2021 Share So I was wondering if anybody else has seen this happen to their Michelin Tyres. I fitted these late Dec and they've started oozing this weird pink rubbery stuff. Have no idea if its a defect or what and am worried about the tyres integrity if I remove it? Furthermore, it doesn't look all that appealing. The tyres in question are Michelin Pro 4 Endurance. I tried taking it up with the supplier but no response as yet. Has this happened to any of you and is there cause for concern? Nick Edited January 21, 2021 by nickvink30@yahoo.com
DR ◣◢ Posted January 20, 2021 Share Looks like sealant seeping out the sidewalls. Have you taken it up with your LBS?
nickvink30@yahoo.com Posted January 20, 2021 Share Hi DR. No sealant present in tyres, I'm running with tubes.Never seen anything like it before and I've used many brands (including Michelin in the past). Long Wheel Base
DR ◣◢ Posted January 20, 2021 Share Oh wow. That is super odd. This is a first for me too. Who did you buy these from? nickvink30@yahoo.com

Butterbean Posted January 20, 2021 Share Apparently its not uncommon with these. Michelin has in the pasy responded that its a pre treatment sprayed onto the under layers before the final top layer is applied and vulcanized. If they get it wrong, too much is applied and can ooze out like this. Apparently only affects very small batches, and is nothing to worry about from their view, and anecdotal evidence from people who've had the same issue... shaper Posted January 20, 2021 Share Quick google, some say it is a bonding sealant of the tyre construction https://www.roadbikereview.com/threads/michelin-tire-defect.365965/ https://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=142729 https://forum.bikeradar.com/discussion/13079075/michelin-pro-4-endurance-failure Edited January 20, 2021 by shaper nickvink30@yahoo.com

I want to scrape it off as it looks so wrong. Still a little concerned about sidewall integrity though as it will remove this "bonding" material. Had i known this would happen I doubt I would have purchased.

BigRed1 Posted January 20, 2021 Share My bother had a set that did exactly the same thing. He took them back to Cycle Lab and they swapped them out for another brand for him. nickvink30@yahoo.com
