Hey guys and girls.

was chatting to a guy who I usto work with a while back and that he had finally saved enough to buy a old bike to commute to work unfortunately it was stolen from him recently so he’s back to walking a good 15km to work in the mornings.

does anyone have a bike that I could buy for him ? It can’t be anything fancy as I’m Afraid it may get stolen.

anyway just thought I’d put it out here I will check FB market place though .

have a lakker eve

Hey mtb would be 1st option as where he stays the roads are quite dirty and full of items that will definitely cause a puncture on a road bike.

but literally anything will work i will set it up for him so that he can avoid punctures the best he can.

thank you for your response.

If it's just for commuting, Cyclelab has a range of bikes they selling branded as Marvel. They go for about R5000.00 new, and would at least have some amount of warranty etc es well.

I considered buying one to test out as a commuter but never pulled the trigger, although, they seemed a lot better than the makro specials selling for twice as much

What area you in?

Hey he is in cpt southern suburbs. I’m currently in knysna for the foreseeable future. A friend of mine will handle the logistical stuff down there. I’m trying to find the bike.

@DonatelloOnPinarello as good at that sounds his previous bike wasn’t even worth 500 rand and it was stolen. So a 5@ bike won’t last all that long I’m afraid.

Chat to the guys at BEN Bicycle Empowerment Network. They're in Capricorn Park/Marina da Gama area. We just organised a bike for an employee, it's a 90's style mountain bike, in great condition at the right price for a commuter.

Seriously okes ? Like as in seriously ? ????

Where is the old hub way ?

What about this bike ? Maybe we can negotiate a bit of a better price ?

Then we can look into some hub contacts and get the bike to you ? If we can get the price down I will drop a few sheckles to help cover costs.

Agree, and also willing to contribute.

Only problem is the OP believes a bike of this value will be stolen again, hence the reason he is looking for something a lot cheaper, that might not attract attention.

Ok, so does the OP want a R2k bike?

29er or 26 ?

Maybe we can get that R5k bike and spray paint it black, ghetto style ?

Easier than spending hours looking for a cheaper bike that some bloke might have nicked anyway.

Hi all sorry for the late response wasn’t on the hub last night had that covid vac and felt abit off ????

@Slowbee & @DIPSLICK I like the sound of the “old hub” I definitely wasn’t around for those days or though I have met some absolute LEGENDS on here who have helped me out like they have known me for years !

@Koos Likkewaan a thought I did have of making a bike look less than it is just simply due to how many desperate people there are in his neighbourhood I mean his previous bike I would say was worth maybe 200 rand and it was liberated after a few months.

id like him to have something that can at least get him to work and back for a good while.

Right now we have about 1500 bux in the kitty to put towards a ride for him (I know not much but it’s a start )

honestly I was thinking a decent 26er that runs well his commute to work does not really involve any big climbs and is relatively flat so even a old drive train would suit as long as it works well.

I just want to also thank you guys for coming forward and offering help etc without even knowing me or him.

he’s a good dude young but stuck in the vicious cycle of poverty unfortunately. And I think to have his wheels back would be quite a large victory for him.

im going to look on FB market place now when I get to work and I’ll post a few links here see what we can do !

many blessings to you all!
